SALEM TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY — Loud noises and flashes near the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station evening caused concern but posed no danger. The Mocanaqua Fire Company reports that crews responded after reports of explosions and bright light in the area.
Fire officials say the plant was conducting routine hydrogen storage tank filling operations when a pressure buildup triggered safety devices. The utility explains, excess hydrogen was safely burned off through the flare system, as designed. No injuries, fire, or damage were reported, and all units have returned to service.
