HARRISBURG — A winter storm only grazed the middle portion of our region, but other parts of the state…not so lucky. AccuWeather stuck with their 2-4 inch snowfall prediction for the central part of the state while snowfall amounts exploded in northeastern and southeastern PA…there, near blizzard conditions were reported.
PennDOT reduced speed limits to 45 mph on major highways across south central and north central Pennsylvania as the winter storm set in. Officials urged motorists to avoid unnecessary travel as conditions deteriorated.
In Northumberland County, PennDOT advised commercial trucks to avoid Route 54 in Northumberland County due to steep grades. Speeds were also reduced on parts of Interstate 80 and Interstate 180. Drivers were directed to check 511PA.com for updates.
In District 8, which includes Dauphin, Cumberland, Lancaster, York, and surrounding counties, speeds were lowered on I-81, I-83, I-283, Route 581, and several other major routes. Tier 1 vehicle restrictions were also put in place, banning certain commercial vehicles, buses, motorcycles, and vehicles towing trailers.
PPL reported hundreds of power outages in our region night.
