HARRISBURG — State Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver has introduced legislation to strengthen protection for owners of unclaimed property. Sen. Culver says the bill adds safeguards for residents approached by companies offering recovery services for a fee.
She says PA Senate Bill 1201 would require finders to register with the state and undergo background checks. The proposal would also lower the cap on finder fees from 15% to 10%.
Sen. Culver says residents can already reclaim property directly from the state Treasury at no cost. She says a couple in her district recovered nearly $12,000 after contacting her office. State Treasurer Stacy Garrity says the bill helps ensure Pennsylvanians receive money owed to them.
