DANVILLE — Geisinger Medical Center in Danville will begin new entrance screenings later this month.
Geisinger officials say the added security starts , part of a systemwide safety rollout. They say all visitors, patients, and staff entering public doors will be screened. Officials say weapons like firearms and knives are already prohibited and if you have such a weapon, you cannot take it into the hospital
Security teams will use walkthrough metal detectors and handheld scanners when needed. Leaders say similar screenings at their emergency departments since 2021 have stopped thousands of weapons.
Geisinger says rising concerns about violence in healthcare prompted the expansion. Officials say the effort is part of broader upgrades, including their new police force, K-9 units, and AI-enabled cameras. Patients are encouraged to arrive early to allow time for screening.
