HARRISBURG — The Hill reports Senator John Fetterman joined Republicans to advance a cabinet nomination. The committee vote moves Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin closer to leading the Department of Homeland Security.
The Hill says the Senate Homeland Security Committee approved the nomination in an 8 to 7 vote. Fetterman was the only Democrat to support advancing Mullin.
The Hill reports the vote followed a contentious confirmation hearing earlier in the week. Senator Rand Paul opposed the nomination, citing concerns about Mullin’s temperament. The nomination now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
