MOUNT CARMEL — State police say a major fire in Mount Carmel was intentionally set. Investigators say the fire destroyed much of the former Columbia Building Supply on Spruce Street. Troopers say the fire began evening inside the vacant structure.
State police say an accelerant was used near a wood or coal stove to ignite the blaze. Fire crews from multiple counties responded as flames spread quickly through the building. Officials say part of the structure collapsed and nearby homes were evacuated. Mount Carmel Borough Police are handling the investigation.
