MOUNT CARMEL — The News Item is reporting… In Mount Carmel, two juveniles are facing charges after a fire destroyed a former building supply site. Borough police say the March 15 blaze was ruled arson. Police say the youths entered the South Spruce Street building and ignited a fire using an accelerant. Officers say the fire quickly grew out of control before the juveniles exited.
The News Item quotes state police fire marshal Cpl. Nathan Birth determined the fire started near a wood and coal stove. Authorities say evidence, witness accounts, and statements supported the arson finding. Fire crews responded around 8:14pm and brought the blaze under control by 11:05pm. Officials say nearby homes were evacuated and multiple departments assisted at the scene.
