Montoursville, PA – Drivers are advised that a bridge rehabilitation project will begin this week on Route 901 in Coal Township, Northumberland County. The bridge between Industrial Park Road and Upper Main Street spans a railroad near the Village of Excelsior.
Beginning , 2026, the contractor, H & P Construction, Inc, and a sub-contractor will be widening shoulders at the interchange between Route 901 and Route 61, to accommodate an upcoming detour for the bridge rehabilitation work. This phase of the project is expected to be completed within two weeks.
Drivers can expect shoulder closures for the widening work which will be performed through , between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Following this work, a detour using Routes 61 and 54 will be implemented with details to be announced at a later time.
H & P Construction, Inc is the prime contractor for this $2.8 million bridge rehabilitation project. Work includes a deck replacement of the existing bridge that carries Route 901 over the railroad. Additional work includes the installation of new strip seal dams, substructure repairs, bearing replacements, guiderail upgrades and the paving of an asphalt overlay on the bridge and a mill and overlay on the bridge approaches. The project is anticipated to be completed in , weather permitting.
