WINFIELD — More work is getting underway along Turtle Creek in Union County this year, as the Northcentral Pennsylvania Conservancy says new streambank stabilization efforts are beginning. Renee Carey, executive director of the Conservancy, said they are preparing the site, “Now that logs are on site, the contractor lined up the equipment operator. The Union County Conservation District’s watershed specialist and folks from the Fish and Boat Commission’s habitat division will work with the contractor and take those logs and get them in the ground to help stabilize the eroding stream banks.
The conservancy says crews are returning this week to stabilize another eroding streambank, working alongside partners in the Northcentral Stream Partnership. They say the group has been active in the watershed for more than a decade.
Officials say that long-term effort helped remove two sections of Turtle Creek from Pennsylvania’s impaired waters list. They say continued restoration work improves water quality and supports aquatic life across the region. There is more info at www.npcweb.org.
