Randy Padfield, director of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, during an event marking National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, April 12–18, 2026, and highlighting Next Generation 911 investments at the Central Susquehanna Regional 911 center in Selinsgrove, Pa.
Pennsylvania’s NG911 system is designed to support regional interoperability among counties and ensure that all individuals who contact 911 for help receive the same standards of service and care regardless of which county Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) – commonly called 911 center – answers the call.
SELINSGROVE — PEMA Director Randy Padfield was in the Selinsgrove area at the CSR911 center this week to honor emergency dispatchers statewide. The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency is marking National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, running through 18.
Director Padfield said Next Generation 911 technology allows calls to be shared across counties during high demand and helps save lives.
He said the state legislature also recently extended 911 funding through 2029 to support operations and future upgrades. Authorities say the state system handles about 14 million calls annually in Pennsylvania. They say regional cooperation helps address staffing shortages and improve response times.
