HARRISBURG — AP is reporting… Pennsylvania’s highest court says certain election data must be made public. The state Supreme Court ruled that “cast vote records,” or spreadsheets of ballot data, are public records.
The court says the data does not reveal how individuals voted and maintains ballot secrecy. Officials in Lycoming County had argued releasing the records would be like reviewing ballots one by one, but the court disagreed.
AP quotes supporters as saying the ruling improves transparency and election integrity. County officials say they will comply, though the court noted the decision applies specifically to Lycoming County’s case.
