MOUNT CARMEL — A Mount Carmel police officer killed more than 100 years ago will soon be honored nationally. The News-Item reports George Krouch’s name will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial during a candlelight vigil in Washington.
Krouch died in 1924 after being struck while directing traffic before an Armistice Day parade. His grandson, Robert Krakowski, says years of research confirmed the story passed down in his family. Officials say the memorial honors more than 24,000 officers who died in the line of duty across US history.
