LANCASTER — The Conestoga River has been recognized as Pennsylvania’s 2026 River of the Year. DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn visited Lancaster County to mark the honor.
The Conestoga flows more than 61 miles from Berks County to the Susquehanna River below Safe Harbor Dam. It beat out the Lower Schuylkill River and Chillisquaque Creek in a public vote.
The Conestoga River Club received a $15,000 grant for year-long celebration activities. DCNR says the river is popular for canoeing, kayaking, tubing and fishing, and is one of Pennsylvania’s 29 water trails.
