JACKSON TOWNSHIP — State police say an 86-year-old Selinsgrove-area man lost nearly $20,000 in a cryptocurrency scam in Snyder County. Troopers say the theft was reported Wednesday on Kline Lane in Jackson Township. Troopers from the Selinsgrove station say the victim was scammed out of $19,860 in bitcoin.
Police are investigating the case as theft by deception involving wire fraud. State police have not released details on how the scam happened. No suspects were identified in the initial report. Investigators are reminding people to be cautious with cryptocurrency requests.
