HARRISBURG — Attorney General Dave Sunday and 48 other attorneys general are urging the Federal Communications Commission to strengthen rules limiting scammers’ access to legitimate telephone numbers.
Attorney General Sunday says criminals increasingly buy real numbers and rotate them rapidly to avoid spam filters while making illegal robocalls and texts. The bipartisan coalition wants stronger certification and reporting requirements for companies that sell phone numbers.
The attorneys general also want buyers to certify that numbers will not be used illegally and are asking regulators to block sales not connected to legitimate calling or texting services.
