SHAMOKIN — Shamokin’s old fire sirens sounded afternoon as the city said goodbye to William “Billy” Milbrand. The intermittent tribute lasted about 20 minutes near City Hall and throughout downtown.
Milbrand previously served as Shamokin mayor, a city council member, and chief of the Independence Fire Company. He also owned Catawese Coach Lines and served on the fire company’s board. City officials had warned residents beforehand that the sirens were ceremonial and did not signal an emergency. Milbrand died on July 17th.
