MOUNT CARMEL — The News-Item reports a coalition has launched a long-term initiative to revitalize the Mount Carmel area.
The Mount Carmel Revitalization Initiative will focus on workforce development, education, economic opportunity, community engagement, and neighborhood improvements.
Bloomberg Philanthropies provided support that helped local and regional organizations develop the initiative’s collaborative framework. Nine partners include Mount Carmel Borough, SEDA-COG, Bucknell University, and the Mount Carmel Area Community Center.
Four workforce trainees will begin landscape and site improvements at the community center this summer. H&P Construction will lead the pilot project with oversight from Mayor Philip “Bing” Cimino. SEDA-COG also plans to pursue funding for a comprehensive community revitalization plan.
