WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick is urging Congress to strengthen economic pressure against Russia over its war in Ukraine. Sen. McCormick called for action during a Senate floor speech
The Republican supports says legislation targeting Russian officials, banks, oil transactions, and entities helping Russia evade existing sanctions. One proposal would authorize tariffs of up to 100 percent against leading importers of Russian oil or natural gas.
Another measure would require sanctions against purchasers, shippers, financiers, and executives involved with Russian-origin oil. Sen. McCormick says both bills would give President Donald Trump more leverage to pursue peace.
