HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania has hit 100 days without a budget, with Democrats and Republicans still far apart, The Center Square reports. The House added $2.7 billion to the Senate’s stopgap plan, saying it’s the minimum needed to cover rising costs. Rep. Jordan Harris, a Philadelphia Democrat, said the Senate’s proposal would “defund police, schools, and health care.” He compared the situation to families facing higher gas and electric bills that can’t be ignored.
Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward, a Republican from Greensburg, said Democrats’ plan “spends far more than we’re bringing in.” She said it would force future tax hikes, adding, “Their numbers have been so high.” Governor Josh Shapiro urged both chambers to “get back to work and pass a budget.” He said his plan lowers business taxes while protecting reserve funds.
