HARRISBURG — In Harrisburg, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is deploying additional resources to combat a spike in Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza cases. Officials say the Commonwealth is mobilizing staff and expanding testing to protect the state’s $7.1 billion poultry industry.
The department says 42 USDA employees are assisting 55 veterinarians and other specialists statewide. Teams are responding at 21 locations where infections have been detected. Since 2022, more than 14.3 million birds have been lost statewide. Farms are urged to strengthen farm biosecurity and report sick birds.
