Riverboat Project Moves Forward In Northumberland
NORTHUMBERLAND — Organizers of a long-planned riverboat attraction for the Susquehanna River is moving closer to reality. The Central Susquehanna Riverboat Society says construction of the vessel’s hull is nearing completion in Leesburg, New Jersey.
Angela Troutman, vice president of the group says the 74-foot riverboat will carry about 110 passengers and cruise at roughly five knots. Once finished, the hull will be transported to Northumberland for final construction and outfitting. She says they’ll offer sightseeing cruises, sunset trips, educational tours, and special events.
The project also now includes a partnership with the new DegenSTEAM initiative supported by the 1994 Charles B. Degenstein Foundation. The group is raising funds through Raise the Region March 11 and 12. More information is available at centralsusquehannariverboat.org.
