HARRISBURG — A Snyder County lawmaker is backing a new affordability plan he says will cut everyday costs across Pennsylvania.
State House member Dave Rowe says he and fellow Republicans unveiled the “Freedom Through Affordability” initiative.
He says the measure is a package of temporary tax cuts and targeted sales tax holidays aimed at easing financial pressure on families. Rep. Rowe is sponsoring the six-month reduction in the state income tax rate from 3.07% to 2.99%.
Lawmakers say other proposals include suspending taxes on electricity, cell phone service, and fuel, and requiring savings to be passed on to consumers.
Additional bills would create temporary sales tax breaks on items like school supplies, baby products, and seasonal purchases. Supporters say the plan offers immediate relief, while critics warn short-term cuts could create future budget challenges.
