DUNMORE — Pennsylvania state police on honored troopers who died in the line of duty during memorial ceremonies across the Commonwealth. Officials gathered in Dunmore as the agency marked its 121st anniversary and remembered the 105 troopers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
State police say the department was formed in 1905 following unrest tied to the Great Anthracite Coal Strike. Troopers stood in formation during ceremonies featuring bagpipes, a moment of silence, and the playing of “Taps.” Officials also recognized six Troop R troopers buried throughout the region. Trooper Bob Urban says the events preserve the agency’s close brotherhood and sisterhood.
