The Daily Item reports an animal cruelty trial began in Sunbury on Tuesday. 42-year-old Eric Hunter of Northumberland is on trial, charged with two dozen felony animal cruelty charges. The newspaper reports Hunter was arrested in April of 2025 after authorities discovered three dead dogs frozen to the ground at a home in Point Township. Another 9 starving dogs were found inside the home and were taken to a veterinarian. The newspaper reports Hunter’s co-defendant, 42-year-old Heather Russin, pleaded guilty Monday. The trial is expected to wrap up today.
