BLOOMSBURG — The initial call came in for a working structure fire in a warehouse to the rear of several homes along West First street around 8pm. Crews from Columbia, Montour, Northumberland and Luzerne Counties all responded to fight the fire which later spread to an apartment building on West Front street leaving several people homeless. A tanker shuttle was set up and numerous tankers dumped thousands of gallons of water feeding four aerial trucks and numerous hand lines being used at the scene.
RIT teams from two companies were requested along with three rehab units. Crews from most of the Columbia County fire companies, Danville Fire Department for Truck and Rehab, East End Fire Company for tanker and RIT crew, Salem township fire department for their rehab, Valley township fire department, Elysburg Fire Department, numerous ALS and BLS units, police and fire police. Starr portables out of Millville delivered porta potties for people to use. PPL cut power to the grid and it remained off till around 1am.
A state police fire marshal has been called in to try to determine an exact cause. The Press Enterprise reports, the warehouse is owned by Rick May for May’s Drive In supplies.
