Pennsylvania Representative Tom Mehaffie speaks to attendees about the value of community engagement and the ongoing work to support healthier local landscapes.
HUMMELSTOWN — Some state officials gathered in Hummelstown, Dauphin County to mark a major milestone…they were there for the ceremonial planting of the 10 millionth tree.
The state and Chesapeake Bay Foundation say the Keystone 10 Million Trees Partnership reached its goal 8 years after launching. DEP and DCNR officials say the effort brought together farmers, students, volunteers, conservation groups, businesses, and local communities. State house member Tom Mehaffie says the trees are meant to reduce pollution, protect drinking water, restore wildlife habitat, and improve streams flowing toward the Chesapeake Bay. DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn says the work strengthened communities and waterways across Pennsylvania.
