WILLIAMSPORT — With power outages still affecting electric customers across the region, PPL Electric Utilities says it is continuing work to make the grid more reliable. In an opinion piece, Regional Affairs Director Jonah Howe says PPL maintains 194,000 poles, 10,000 miles of power lines and 72 substations in Northcentral Pennsylvania.
Howe says trees and branches remain a leading cause of outages, so crews trimmed more than 1,000 miles of trees in the region in 2025. He says grid automation and modernization also helped customers experience nearly 25% fewer outages last year. He says they have nearly 200 employees working around the clock to fix outages.
