HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate stayed at 4.2 percent in May for the fourth straight month. The state Department of Labor and Industry says Pennsylvania remained just below the national unemployment rate of 4.3 percent.
The state’s civilian labor force rose by 19,000 people in May, reaching a record high of 6,626,000. Officials say most of that increase came from more residents being employed.
Pennsylvania also reached a record high of 6,209,500 total nonfarm jobs, up 9,000 from April. The largest job gain came in education and health services, while construction saw the largest decline.
