UPADATE: Shamokin Dam Mayor Donald Musser reports, they were able to start producing water late . The borough is still requiring conservation for at least another 24-36 hours.
SHAMOKIN DAM — Shamokin Dam Mayor Donald Musser tells us the borough reservoir has fallen to about half capacity. Recent storms filled the West Branch Susquehanna River with sediment, overwhelming the borough’s treatment system. Musser says crews cannot currently replenish the reservoir or water tower.
The existing water supply remains safe for drinking, bathing, and other essential needs. Residents are asked to reduce normal water use by 20 to 25 percent.
Outdoor watering, car washing, and pool filling are prohibited under the emergency restrictions. Officials also ask residents to delay laundry and other non-essential water use. Musser says outside water operators are helping borough crews find a solution.
