HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania American Water customers are receiving money back from settlements involving manufacturers of PFAS chemicals. The utility says customers have received about $37 per account through several credits.
The settlements stem from nationwide litigation against companies that manufactured PFAS, sometimes called “forever chemicals.” PFAS have been detected in some drinking-water sources, resulting in testing and treatment costs for water utilities.
Pennsylvania American Water says receiving a settlement credit does not mean PFAS were found in that customer’s water supply. The company says it remains in compliance with drinking-water standards and is investing about $321 million in PFAS treatment. More information is available at PennsylvaniaAmericanWater.com.
