SUNBURY — A former Valley lawmaker who helped make environmental protection a constitutional right in Pennsylvania has died. Former State Sen. Franklin Kury died last week at age 89. Kury Point was named in his honor and overlooks the confluence of the Susquehanna River at the Shikellamy State Park Marina.
Kury represented the region in the state House and later the 27th District in the state Senate. He authored Pennsylvania’s Environmental Rights Amendment, adopted in 1971, guaranteeing rights to clean air and pure water. No indication on funeral or memorial services at this time.
