SHAMOKIN — Two people were injured and multiple suspects were taken into custody after gunfire erupted in Shamokin’s Fifth Ward around noon (CORRECTED). Northumberland County District Attorney Michael O’Donnell tells reporters, there is no immediate threat to the public.
Police say two people, two homes and at least one vehicle were struck by gunfire. A witness told The News-Item he saw three men carrying guns and called 9-1-1.
Authorities closed several streets while police collected evidence, and a state police forensic unit responded. The Shamokin Area pep rally scheduled at the city pool was canceled as a precaution. The investigation continues. WNEP is reporting that two people remain in the hospital, but no other details are out.
